This year, is the quietest fire situation over the last 10 years on the territory of Russia. According to VEGA satellite service as of May 23, 2013 in the beginning of the year there were fewer than 4,400 fires that have affected the area covered by forest.Such fires were on about 1.1 million hectares, of which about 470 thousand hectares was covered by forest.Total for all types of lands there were fewer than 14,300 fires (including agricultural burns).In comparison, from 2002 to 2012 from the beginning of the year to May 23, there was an average of about 10,000 forest fires that have been on more than 3.5 million hectares (including more than 1.5 million hectares of forested area).

Welcome to VEGA-Constellation !

Constellation-VEGA (briefly VEGA) - is a long-term project of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Space Research Institute - IKI (Department of Satellite Monitoring Technologies).

Project VEGA is directed on creation of unified technology platform of information systems (services), providing options of operational distant work with the data of satellite observations, results of its processing and other related information for monitoring of renewable biological resources and scientific biosphere researches for different users' groups. VEGA implements the concept of geospatial information web-service gathering satellite and other geographic information from different sources and providing access to users worldwide. Information systems of family VEGA provides access to data from different vendors almost in real time in the form of dynamic web-service operating in distributed environment, finding spatial data according to various criteria and analyzing them using web browser to solve scientific and applied issues.

Basic information systems of Constellation-VEGA project are:

VEGA-Sсience - is information service for collective use for analysis of long-term satellite and other geospatial data in researches of biosphere status and dynamics. Development and support of service VEGA-Science is provided by IKI.

VEGA-PRO - is information service for professional operations with real-time updated satellite data archives to provide solution of a wide range tasks of assessment and monitoring of renewable biological resources related primarily to agriculture, forestry and forest industry. Development and support of VEGA-PRO service is provided by IKI together with the Space Research Institute of the Earth (IKIZ).

Development of automated technologies of collecting, processing and presentation of satellite data to create information systems of family VEGA is jointly carried out by IKI RAS and IKIZ.

The work of IKI on development of technologies used in creation of family systems VEGA are implemented with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences (the project "Monitoring" state reg. no 01.20.0.2.00164), the Russian Foundation for Basic Researches (projects), the Ministry for Education and Science of the Russian Federation (projects).

Works on creation of specialized information systems is carried out in cooperation with various organizations.
